i am NOT ninoy.

What's up with this "I am NINOY" campaign anyway? I know I have a Ninoy in me because I have P500 in my pocket (although not always). I think it's a good marketing concept but that's all there is to it. I'm sure everyone feels goosebumps thinking about what Ninoy did for our country, but can you really say "I AM NINOY"? Personally, I think it's a brilliant marketing gimmick to sell merchandise and that's all there is to it. Case in point?
http://www.iamninoy.com/iamninoy_campaign.htm is the link to the campaign objective. What does this campaign want to do?
The core message of the Campaign is the selfless giving of the best of ourselves for our countrymen and women and the advancement of the country as a whole.
- WOW!!! How noble! So how exactly do you propose we do this?
...the campaign is designed to create innovative mechanisms and systems for the participation of corporate brands and their customers in schemes that contribute to causes and projects that enhance the welfare of the poor and marginalized Filipinos.
-Uhm, what does that mean then?
Concretely, Our corporate campaign partners commit to manufacture and sell iamninoy goods and/or services as part of their participation in this campaign. In turn, BSAF grants our corporate partner the non-exclusive and non-transferable usage of the iamninoy brand and logo in the marketing and selling of their Goods & Services.
- Ahhhh, kaka-turn off naman. Kala ko pa naman you want to make adnvancements. It all looks like manufacture and goods and corporate partner and brands and marketing and ultimately selling ang main purpose. I guess nobody in this time and age will do something nang walang kapalit no? Oh wait, you have events ba ikamo?
AUGUST 21: The Commemorative Mass at Don Bosco
AUGUST 21: The iamninoy Exhibit at Powerplant Mall
AUGUST 19 - SEPTEMBER 28: The Ninoy Aquino Photo Exhibit
AUGUST 22 - 24: iamninoy Youth Congress Organized by the Ninoy & Cory Aquino Center for Leadership
iamninoy Commemorative Plates
PLDT iamninoy Touchcard
- Uhmmm, wait lang ahhh... Out of all the events listed on your website, it looks like only the Youth Congress will actually benefit the youth. I don't really think a commemorative plate or a PLDT Touchcard will do the trick... What? You have more events coming soon?
More events soon!
Marathon
Mall and Provincial Events
Fashion Show with Partner Brands
iamninoy CD
Major Concert
- OK, now I'm really seeing right through you. The end does not justify the means. I don't think a fashion show or a major concert can instill principles permanently. OK, a major concert may give you 3 minutes of goosebumps listening to Bamboo singing "Hoy, Pinoy Ako!!!". But what does it really do? Honestly? After going to your events, do you honestly expect me to love my country more and do the right things for my country?
Do you think I'll go to my job everyday thinking that I am doing this for the benefit of my countrymen, knowing that each hour I work, I contribute to this macro-economy where the Philippines is a player, and therefore do my job more efficiently?
Do you confer that I'll go to school and study more diligently, everyday striving for excellence because I want to get the highest possible grade I can, and partly to encourage everyone in my class, if not the whole school, to always struggle for success?
Do you expect that I'll be more honest than I already am? Or more considerate of my fellowmen? Or not cross lanes in EDSA? Or have my car fixed so I don't have as much exhaust that destroys the environment? Or not stare at people who look different because I suddenly realized that it's rude?
I can not really equate myself with THE Ninoy Aquino mainly for two reasons.
Firstly, I am not ready to die for this country because I don't think "this country is worth dying for". Don't get me wrong, I LOVE the Philippines, and I LOVE being Filipino, but I am not ready to die a martyr for a country that I know will not change, even in behalf of my death. I do not have as much passion for the greater good as only a true hero can.
And secondly, I do not have as much courage. With all the extra-judicial killings, unsolved government scams and corruption, and all the national problems a country can handle, I remain silent. Not because I don't care, but because I'm afraid my voice will fall on deaf ears. I'm scared that what I think is right and just will only anger those whose selfish needs come first, those with power who can use it to supress me.
So yeah, I am thankful that this country has its NINOY AQUINO, but i am NOT Ninoy.
