HOLGA!!!

My first Holga pic posted on the Web!!! :D Had this processed at Digiprint for P155, plus free delivery. Not bad, but they just save it to a CD. I would've liked it printed as well. Oh well...

Not again...

What's happening? Apparently, it's Oakwood mutiny part 2.

Antonio Trillanes is holding Manila Peninsula captive this time. I'm not sure what these people want, but here's a gist: http://www.tinig.com/v34/v34lp_panawagan.html.

This country isn't going to the dogs. It's been to the dogs and has chosen to stay with the dogs. Everyone's so busy with their own selfish bullshit that they forget there are other people to consider in the decisions we make.

But everyone's got their own agenda and somehow, it doesn't go with others'. We do not have to agree with each other's opinion but at least, let's agree to be good citizens and help the country be a better one. We're old enough to know what's right from wrong.

Here are a few ideas I have to make this country a better one through simple actions:

1. Always bring a small bag with you put plastic candy wrappers, cigarette butts, or whatever rubbish you have for disposal at a later time. Refrain from throwing things on the ground or on waterways. Look for the nearest garbage bin.

2. Always ask for official receipts. Especially in Boracay which has a very expensive lifestyle but only a few establishments actually give out receipts when asked (read: never volunteered).

3. Don't break into qeues. This is the most basic form of justice you can find which many Filipinos seem to forget. If someone arrives earlier than you, then it is rightfully just that he/she gets a service/product first. Qeueing is a form of discipline that tests your ability to practice justice and fairness in all its purity.

4. Care. I'm sure there are a lot of things happening with your life, but there's a bigger picture. There are a lot of things happening right now in this country, too, much less the world. Take at least an hour of your day to know what's going on. Or better yet,

5. Take action. It's small gestures that matter. Join the Army Reserve program. Donate to a local charitable institution. Run a "Clean our Streets" program. Buy more Filipino products. Do not stop to care.

Happy Birthday, Pa!

I Miss my Holga!!!

It's been quite a while. The first time I laid my eyes on the photos of this motherf*ther, i was like, WOOOOOOOOOOOOOWWW!!! I just needed to have this camera! The camera takes very unique pictures with the vignetting effect and the over-saturated colors, which I love because they look so vintage.

Sample Holga picture (c/o wikipedia.org)

And because I was fortunate enough to go to Hong Kong, where it is manufactured, I finally got my hands on this little cammie on a cold winter's night last 2007.I wanted to buy it in a small shop but I ended up getting it from Page One (or some other biggie multistore book shop). After purchasing it, I didn't even wait till I got home and opened the nifty starter pack. It's complete with a roll of 120 film (larger than the conventional 35 mm film), a color built-in flash, and batteries.

I just totally fell in love with it. I took it everywhere I went and just took photos of whatever I can shoot. The pictures didnt really come out as I expected but after reading different articles about the camera, it takes a bit of practice.
And that's when I got bored of it, giving effort to practicing and learning different angles. Which I shouldn't in the first because it's supposed to be a point-and-shoot-spur-of-the-moment-don't-care-if-the-film's-expensive type of camera.
But now, I MISS IT SOOOO MUCH!!! I want you to know that you will always be my baby, and although other people might not understand it, who cares?

Jerry?

BOOOO!!!

Jerry Seinfeld's unbecoming conduct on Larry King Live disgusts me. He's part of the statistics of the people I hate most: losers who have peaked in their careers, and can't accept the fact that it's over. Shame on you, Jerry! Get over it! When I watch Seinfeld again, it's not really that funny anyway. Very early 90's comedy.

Chinese in the Phils

Man, oh man! Mandarin!

http://chinesepod.com/

I've recently gotten to like Chinese in the past few months. I don't know why; it's probably because I'm a frustrated businessman and the lot of business ideas from China frustrates me more because I don't have gazillions of dollars to invest in any of them.

And as with any other culture intros, I firmly believe that you have to know how to at least say "hello" before doing anything with them.

Found this website on the net and I thought why not share it with other people who want to learn the language. And if you've got investor capital, I'd gladly work for you to scour Slanteyeland for whatever it is you want.

Country songs are the best!

I'm such a sucker for country songs, especially those tear jerkers. They're very personal and heartfelt and although the singers/composers have undergone different circumstances, you can't help but feel for them.

Here's a clip for you.

Career Personality Test

According to Ivillage.co.uk (http://quiz.ivillage.co.uk/cgi-bin/uk_work/tests/career.pl) here is my career personality type, in full detail.

You would most enjoy a career that allows you to meet new people. You would also be happiest in a career that allows you to be free and flexible, and allows you to be extremely creative. Some careers that would be perfect for you are:

Stockbroker
Secretary
Receptionist
Director
Recruitment Consultant
Politician
Marketing
Human Resources Manager
Religious Minister
Teacher
Lawyer
Advertising
Consultant
Financial Adviser
Financial Planner
GP
Physical Therapy
Occupational Therapy
Public Relations
Estate Agent
Travel Agent
Restauranteur
Hotel Manager
Events Organiser

You are a great leader. You genuinely enjoy being around other people. Your relationships with others are very important to you. You love talking and meeting new people. You are very enthusiastic about work and about all that you do and have in your life. You love being the focus of attention. You enjoy a fast pace. You are very socially oriented. Therefore, you are much happier being with others than you are alone. You crave interaction with others.

You are very spontaneous and often act before you think. You are always quick to answer when you are asked a question, even if you aren't sure of the answer. It is easier for you to improvise as you go along. You enjoy thinking out loud, and are most creative when brainstorming with friends or colleagues. You enjoy being involved in many activities.

You are very easy to read, and often wear your heart on your sleeve. You are never afraid to tell people what you think. You are very empathetic and genuine. You can sometimes be seen as over-emotional or too involved by others. But that is only because you tend to get so involved in the things you do that they become personal. You want to be adored, loved and appreciated. You like to please others and to make sure people are happy.

You trust your gut instincts. You are easily inspired and trust that inspiration. You are very innovative. You analyse things by looking at the big picture. You are concerned about how what you do affects others. You worry about your actions and the future. You tend to use a lot of metaphors and are very descriptive and colourful in your choice of language.

You are very creative, and get bored easily if you don't get to express yourself. You like to learn new things. You don't like the same old routine. You like to leave your options open.

No wonder I don't like what I'm doing.

The Grossest

Ladies and gents, followers of my blog (a.k.a. Me), this has got to be the worst EVER video I have ever seen in my life. No words can explain how I felt when I saw this video. You see, I hate this stuff. And to see other people actually liking this stuff just makes me want to puke over and over and over again until I spill my guts and I lose my ability to digest food so I can puke no longer and I just get a dextrose the rest of life for sustenance.

Please be careful, it's a strange world out there...

My newest obsessions as of October 07

THE WAY-BAN RAYFARERS!!!! :D Love the classic look and the fit. Very comfortable indeed. I'll post some of my pics soon for my own personal narcissistic needs. Coz nobody else reads my blog but me!!! BWAHAHAHAHA!!!!

And....

My new iPod touch!!! Only 8 gigs but it's a head-turner in the local rail station. Not a lot of Pinoys are aware of the latest tech gadgets so most get awed because apparently, there's a new touch-screen gadget that you can buy here in the Phils.

Which I find weird because there are lots of IT people here.

Latest update: I have scratches in both my iPod and Wayfarers already but it's okay because they both still work the way they're supposed to: play music and cover my eyes, respectively.

Thanks to wikimedia.org for both pics.

Depression 101

I can't be depressed. I think I'm happy enough to know that I'm not. Or maybe I'm sad enough to deny it.

I've been thinking a lot about life lately and it seems that I'm getting nowhere. Maybe it's quarter-life crisis or maybe it's my genes finally catching up. You see, my uncles and aunts and cousins are very laid-back people; they like to drink a lot and be merry. I'm not saying that they're lazy because some of them have full-time jobs too.

I don't want to go into that so much because I suddenly felt like I'm blaming other people for my incapacity to work.

I am working, alright. I've been holding on to this job for the past three months and guess what? I'm bored to death.

Yup, that's me. I'd like to call myself a borewhore but it doesn't make sense. Anyway, that's just the type of person that I am. The longest time I've held on to a job is 11 months, and that was in a call center. The rest were meager time spent in sales and marketing positions that I thought were right for me.

And now here I am, working for a reputable company in a sales position in a mall. After three months, there's just no challenge left for me. So I started to write again. And surf the web again, thanks to our newly-installed wi-fi system.

I like researching about what I go through, and I came upon this website http://www.depression.com/. I got worried because according to experts, here are the most common symptoms of clinical depression:

  • constant feelings of sadness, irritability, or tension
  • decreased interest or pleasure in usual activities or hobbies
  • loss of energy, feeling tired despite lack of activity
  • a change in appetite, with significant weight loss or weight gain
  • a change in sleeping patterns, such as difficulty sleeping, early morning awakening, or sleeping too much
  • restlessness or feeling slowed down
  • decreased ability to make decisions or concentrate
  • feelings of worthlessness, hopelessness, or guilt
  • thoughts of suicide or death

So I did a raincheck. Out of the 9 most common symptoms, I'm going through 8 of them. F*ck! I AM depressed! But why? According to the same website, here are some of the causes for depression:

  • Family history. Genetics play an important part in depression. It can run in families for generations.
  • Trauma and stress. Things like financial problems, the breakup of a relationship, or the death of a loved one can bring on depression. You can become depressed after changes in your life, like starting a new job, graduating from school, or getting married.
  • Pessimistic personality. People who have low self-esteem and a negative outlook are at higher risk of becoming depressed. These traits may actually be caused by low-level depression (called dysthymia).
  • Physical conditions. Serious medical conditions like heart disease, cancer, and HIV can contribute to depression, partly because of the physical weakness and stress they bring on. Depression can make medical conditions worse, since it weakens the immune system and can make pain harder to bear. In some cases, depression can be caused by medications used to treat medical conditions.
  • Other psychological disorders. Anxiety disorders, eating disorders, schizophrenia, and (especially) substance abuse often appear along with depression.

The only reason I can think of is that I'm stuck in a rut I can't get out of. I feel there's something else for me out there, and all I need to do is look for it. Who know's how long it will take me. NEED HELP!
