I'm contemplating on my future now. What becomes of me in my "new life"?Yesterday, I had a talk with a friend from whom I needed advice with what job to apply for. Based on his experience, it was easier to look for a job (or at least more feasible) where your skills / previous industry will be used. Since I am in sales for a hotel group, he incessantly insisted that it will be more likely for me to get a job in a hotel doing sales.
Now here's the thing; I would LOVE to work for a media company, either a network or a publication. I've graduated with a tourism degree but I've always had my heart set on media (my father is a media practitioner and my college organization is based in Mass Communication). The thought of influencing others and making a difference appeals to me.
As a compromise, I was thinking of getting into travel publications. I haven't tried applying for jobs yet but I would really consider even an administration role, just so I can get into the industry that I want. I'm thinking of either Conde Nast Traveller or Travel + Leisure. I know, if you're going to dream, dream big!
I need to actively look for jobs because the move is near. I just wish my work computer allowed me to access seek.com.au and careers.com.au. Until then, I'm going to have more time thinking about this...
